Home Depot or Lowe’s make a good filter. It will take out most of the brown stain. You have to refill it with a special salt to soften the water as the iron water is usually hard and tough on laundry suds. If its really bad you need a separate iron filter. The whole set up will run you about 4 to 500 and you need a lot of pipes to install.
But it’s worth it, sweet water and no chlorine taste.
Good luck.
PS. don’t forget to separate the outside water system for hoses etc, as you don’t want to filter that. Run a seperate grey water system that does not run into your septic tank, for shower and washing machine water. This prevents Septic Tank problems. Chlorine kills the tank.
I live in Indiana and I use to own a house that had well water, when we moved in we had a regular water softener it did OK for drinking water but nothing else,Then we had a really expensive water filtration system put in that promised we would have no rust or smell.Needless to say it didn’t work we had to sue the company to get our money back.We won and got our money back but it wasn’t worth the hassle.I haven’t heard of anything that really works for well water but just clean your toilets and sinks every other day with "The Works" this product works very well.
